Sacred Heart High School softball was synonymous with success and state championships during the years of 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Knights of head coach Daryl Hoelting won 73 of 74 games during that three-year stretch and put together a state-record winning streak that reached 68 games by the end of the 2007 season.
The Knights won the Class 2-1A state title in 2005 with a 24-1 record, defeating Spearville (15-0), Elkhart (8-5) and Chase County (5-1) at Emporia.
Sacred Heart moved up to the Class 3A classification in 2006, but met the challenge head on, posting a perfect 24-0 record with state tournament wins over Wellsville (1-0), Humboldt (2-0) and Herington-White City (3-2) in Manhattan.
In 2007, the Knights were perfect again with a 25-0 record, with wins over Southeast of Saline (5-0), Wichita Independent (10-9) and Silver Lake (6-1) at the state tournament in Manhattan.
The state championships were the fourth, fifth and sixth in school history.
